We have heard an astounding number of folks in our community who are dealing with uterine health issues (fibroids, PCOS, endometriosis, etc.). Unfortunately, there have been no avenues to have a collective discussion about our individual experiences as Black women/femmes, which may lead to feelings of isolation and a lack of understanding on next steps when experiencing health illnesses.
Black Women Connect Vancouver will be starting a series of conversations for Black women and femmes around their uterine health. Black women and femmes have often been left out of the conversation when it comes to uterine health and their experiences with the health care system that may have racial biases.
Topics we will cover:
The importance of understanding uterine health from a Black woman perspective
Health outcomes
What folks should be aware for their own health ie. signs and symptoms;
How to advocate better for yourself in health care settings
Fibroids
Ovarian Cysts
Eendometriosis
Hysterectomies
Pelvic Floor Rehab
